Gifton

10th February 2012

Gifton an 8yr old Male Labrador Retriever was referred to us following surgery to repair his calcaneal tendon in his right hind.

After his initial assessment we set up a treatment plan for Gifton. We felt due to the nature of his surgery and the slow recovery time (60% of tendon strength achieved after 6 months and 80% after one year) he would benefit most from the water treadmill. We felt this would help to improve his stance and hopefully encourage a normal stride to return.

Gifton progressed quickly in the water treadmill, working up to 20minutes in total with a rest in the middle at a speed of 2.2mph. His muscle symmetry and stride have greatly improved and he now spreads more weight through his right hind paw rather than walking on his tip toes. He has finished his hydrotherapy course of treatment now and we wish him all the best for future.
